Our Story

How it all started...

Our community has suffered more than its fair share of deaths to drugs, suicide and violence. People we love are struggling and searching and dying before they can find the help they need.

In the ancient Hebrew language, Shalom represents well-being...peace in body, mind, heart, and soul. Our culture tries to specialize everything in order to treat what ails us. We have a medical doctor for our body, a counselor for our mind and heart, and a pastor or priest for our soul.

We weren't created in parts to be put together like a puzzle. Being well should represent being well ALL OVER, through and through. That's where we can help at Moving Forward Safe Place.

Being well also makes healthy relationships possible. If we venture outside ourselves and try to connect with another human being without being well ourselves....you may already know what happens. It just won't work.

If you see something in your path that makes you nervous or find memories of something in your past that keep affecting your present, we may be your beginning place for MOVING FORWARD. We are a trauma-informed safe place for those ready to think, plan, and choose next steps before MOVING FORWARD with confidence.

We were inspired by some loving neighbors at the Carbondale Church of Christ who grieved some of these losses among our own and desired to make a difference in the community. After three years of operation as a ministry of the congregation, on September 11, 2025, Moving Forward Safe Place Incorporated registered with the State of Oklahoma as a public charity and formed a board of directors from the community to oversee a newly created, independent non-profit corporation. We are in process of filing as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax exempt, charitable organization.
